Cold City

Winter has arrived in the city.

Foggy exhaust smoke, cold puddles splashed by passing cars, wind-tunnels that will knock your hat off: if you live in the city, you are no stranger to these occurrences. Just walking around the city proves to be tough. And I applaud those brave enough to attempt going over the random batches of ice on the sidewalk wearing their 6" heels. As I walk comfortably through the street wearing flat, winter-proof boots with gripped soles, I can't help but wonder, is dating in the city just as precautious?

Some of us step into a relationship wearing our favourite, open-toe sling-backs, and some of us go in wearing our worn-down Uggs. Some of us like to be taken out to be wined and dined, and others find a night in with a rental just as exciting. When it comes to relationships, is it better to have higher or lower expectations?

As women, we are fed images of the perfect man pretty much since birth. We are told that a knight in shining, white armour will come by on his trusty steed and whisk us off of our feet. But, is that even a viable possibility in today's modern world, where most women have found their own horse to ride rather than perfecting their hold around their man's back? Or, would the appearance of such a knight make any self-sufficient woman ditch her old pony and hop on one for two? Is it okay to believe that it's the man's job to save us? Is it better to believe that we could be the ones wearing the heavy armour?

Maybe, there is no black or white, and we all have swords and steeds. There may not need to be a balance of saviour and damsel to create a great relationship, and the fairy tales in the future will showcase a lowly manservant swept off of his feet by a metal-clad female. Because, a woman who keeps her daily armour shiny and white is more probable anyways.
